Mesa Community College, the nation’s largest two year college was the site the First Annual Southwest Regional Race Amity Conference, Oct 4-5, 2019.
The National Center for Race Amity partnered with the Mesa Community College’s Cultural Sciences Department and Office of Student Life who hosted this regional event.
This diverse gathering was filled with interactive student-centered workshops. It began with an opening keynote address, “Where Do We Go From Here/A Donde Nos Vamos?” by Vanessa Martínez, Ph. D., Professor of Anthropology at Holyoke Community College. Along with workshops offering study and proposed remedies for contemporary social challenges, the conference proceedings included highly spirited performances by the extraordinarily talented all female mariachi band, Mariachi Paison.
Dates have been set for the Second Annual Southwest Regional Race Amity Conference hosted at Mesa Community College September 25 -26.
