Bias, Belonging and the Technologies of the Future: Two Generations, One Conversation

As artificial intelligence, social media, and other emerging technologies increasingly shape how we understand the world—and one another—the challenge of unconscious bias has taken on new urgency. Technology can help us connect across differences, expand access, and challenge long-held assumptions. It can also reinforce stereotypes, deepen divisions, and reproduce the very inequities we hope to overcome.

In this engaging, inter-generational workshop, authors Howard J. Ross and Jake Ross draw upon their new edition of Everyday Bias to explore how bias is evolving in a rapidly changing technological landscape. Combining perspectives shaped by two different generations, they will examine the ways algorithms, online communities, and digital media influence identity, belonging, decision-making, and our perceptions of race and difference.

Through personal stories, research, reflection, and interactive conversation, participants will consider how we can become more conscious users and creators of technology—and how curiosity, humility, and genuine human connection can help us build a future in which more people experience dignity, understanding, and belonging.
