Wheelock College To Become a Part of Boston University

On June 1, 2018, the 130 years of service to the education of families and children by Wheelock College as an independent private college ended. It has transitioned to become the Wheelock College of Education at Boston University. In this transition, the Wheelock College of Education is wholly under the administration of Boston University. The National Center for Race Amity is one of a number of Centers and programs at the former Wheelock College that are not a part of this transition of Wheelock as it becomes a school of education. NCRA continues its work as an independent non-profit organization with its mission as follows:

MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the National Center for Race Amity is to impact the public discourse on race. Race relations in America will not substantially improve unless the public discourse on race moves beyond the blame/grievance/rejection framework to one that recognizes and celebrates our ability to overcome racial prejudice through association, amity, and collaboration. While the tradition of racial oppression was unfolding, a parallel tradition, largely hidden and poorly understood, was demonstrating some of the most positive qualities to be found in American history. This “other tradition”, of close collaboration, amity, and love has served as the moral and spiritual counterweight to the dominant tradition of racism that occupies so much of our national history. The other tradition offers a new entry point for the public discourse on race. Race Amity is the goal of our actions and focus of our work at the National Center for Race Amity. We pursue this mission through education, legislation, and media activities.

The National Center for Race Amity continues its work as found on this website and looks forward to your continued participation and support.
