Atlanta Race Amity Day Livestream and Gallery

The Race Amity Institute in Atlanta hosted a free, public Race Amity Day celebration on Sunday, June 14 from 2 to 4 pm. As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary during a time of deep social division, this special program invited reflection on the ways Americans have distinguished themselves by working together across racial lines.

Dr. Robert C. Henderson, a member of the Board of Directors of the National Center for Race Amity, offered keynote remarks reflecting on the requirements for personal and moral commitment to renew the founding promise of our nation.

Georgia Reps. Park Cannon, Doreen Carter and Billy Mitchell, along with State Sen. Kenya Wicks, presented a Georgia House of Representatives resolution marking Race Amity Day. A proclamation from the Atlanta City Council was also presented. The program included live music, refreshments, and children’s activities.

About Race Amity Day:  Tracing its roots to a national conference on racial harmony in 1921, Race Amity Day is observed nationwide on the second Sunday in June to celebrate cross-racial friendship and highlight the power of interracial partnerships to foster enduring social change.
